Fridge Freezer spare parts that most commonly break include bulbs, control boards, door seals, door hinges, motors and compressors.
Fridge Freezer Spare Parts that most commonly break
On large American style fridge freezers there are generally two control boards, the first is the front display board located above the drinks dispenser, this will display the temperatures of both the fridge and freezers and will give you control of the functions of the fridge freezer. The second is located at the back of the fridge freezer this is the main brain of the machine. It is generally best to change both the front and rear control board.
Freezer baskets or Freezer trays are used to contain your frozen foods and can be slid out to access the contents. Freezer trays can be made from a metal basket, but most commonly are made from plastic. Plastic Freezer trays are most likely to break, crack or snap. Some times the Freezer basket can be broken down into two separate parts the basket front and the rest of the freezer basket.
Bottle shelves are located inside the door of your fridge positioned at the bottom. They are generally used to store milk and other large items for quick access. These Fridge bottle shelves or Dairy shelves as they are also known are made from plastic and can easily break if knocked or over loaded. They are fairly simple to replace they should just unclip out, by lifting the whole tray upwards.
Defrost heaters on a Freezer are a type of element that are used to melt ice. They do this by heating up at regular intervals to melt ice or frost surrounding it, the then melted ice runs down the back of the freezer into a tray sitting on top of the compressor, which then the heat from the compressor melts it.
A Crisper Shelf is located just above your salad drawers. These are often made of glass or sometimes plastic. These Crisper shelves can often get smashed or cracked if a heavy item is dropped on them. This is obviously an easy replacement; the crisper shelf will just slide out.
Fridge Freezer door seal runs around the edge of the door. It is magnetised and this magnetisation keeps the door closed, if the magnet inside the seal becomes weak then this can allow cold air to escape from the machine. A simple way to check that your door seal needs replacing would be to trap a piece of paper between the door and the freezer, if the piece of paper holds in place then the seal is working fine, if the piece of paper falls then the seal will need replacing.
The defrost timer is designed to run the compressor motor or the defrost heater but not at the same time. If your compressor is not running then it is likely that your defrost heater has malfunctioned. The defrost timer is usually located at the bottom of the fridge freezer near the compressor
